In recent years, the Chinese new energy heavy-duty truck market has shown a vigorous development trend, with sales and penetration rates continuing to rise, becoming the focus of industry attention. In the first quarter of 2025, the new energy heavy-duty truck market will show unprecedented vitality. According to the data from the dedicated vehicle data resource library, the sales volume of new energy heavy-duty trucks in China reached 30300 units in the first quarter of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 177%. Behind this growth is a triple resonance of "policy market technology". At the policy level, measures such as "trade in", reduction of purchase tax, and fiscal subsidies greatly stimulate market demand; At the same time, with the continuous decline in the cost of power batteries, the initial purchase cost of new energy heavy-duty trucks is no longer the main concern for users. According to a research report by CITIC Securities, it is estimated that the full lifecycle cost advantage of pure electric heavy-duty trucks over traditional diesel heavy-duty trucks can reach 500000 to 1 million yuan in 2024, while this cost advantage will be less than 200000 yuan in 2022. The main factors that give pure electric heavy-duty trucks a cost advantage are the decrease in battery costs and the improvement of fast charging technology. From the perspective of market penetration rate, in the first quarter of 2025, the market penetration rate of new energy heavy-duty trucks in China reached 19.7%. Compared with the same period last year, the penetration rate of new energy heavy-duty trucks was only 8.1%, showing a significant upward trend. According to data, in the next decade, the global share of medium and heavy truck electrification will reach 30%, which can create annual sales of over 100 billion US dollars. The industry believes that, based on the development logic of new energy passenger vehicles, the current electric heavy-duty truck market is very similar to the new energy passenger vehicle market in its early stages of development, and may be on the eve of explosive growth, with enormous potential for market development. More and more companies are laying out new energy heavy-duty trucks, including traditional heavy-duty truck companies such as Jiefang and Shaanxi Automobile, as well as industry leading enterprise CIMC Vehicles, which is focusing on pure electric trailer trains and aims to reshape the industry landscape.
